Eastern City (5)

Changing the propeller.

A couple of weeks before the fitting out was completed the propeller was changed. I remember this happening, but after 39 years cannot remember why.

The nut is removed

  The propeller is lifted off
The ship is ballasted down by the head so the stern tube is clear of the water. The propellor shaft was only pulled in far enough for the propeller to be removed.

Pulling the propeller off the shaft   Lowering the propeller into the water
The propeller is lowered partly into the water so it can be rigged for removal.
