Setting up building dock and installing prefabricated sections

After the previous ship has been floated out of the building dock the water is pumped out and the blocks are lined up ready for the next ship.   Lining up the blocks in the building dock

When the lining up of the blocks is completed the aft section is placed in the dock and carefully aligned.

 

The photo on the right shows a section through No.5 double bottom tanks.

This is a close up view of typical arrangement of main ballast suction pipes with cast iron bell mouths. Bell mouth is 80mm above the plating, but stripping suction (not shown) is at aft end of the tank and that bell mouth is 15mm above the plating. All photos copyright © Reardon Smith Ships.
