The Welsh City and Cardiff City were built 1968/9 at UCSY, Govan. 16501dwt
Both ships originally had two in line 9 cylinder Ruston AO engines, but they were re-engined with two Pielstick engines in Aioi, Japan.
This photo of the Ruston AO engines was taken in Aioi Shipyard after their removal in preparation for installation of the Pielstick engines. One of the four engines was returned to Cardiff on one of the vessels. It was given to the training college at Llandaff and many of our apprentices learnt some of their skills on this engine. |
