The Cardiff City was built in 1975 by Hayashikane Shipbuilding & Engineering Co Ltd - Shimonoseki YC. Yard/hull No.: 1179. It was to be time chartered by Reardon Smith, but was then purchased by them and changed to British flag by MHI, Kobe.
