I recall passage on Prince Rupert (1975) from Osaka to Rio De Janeiro sailing through the Indonesian Islands and across Indian Ocean then South Atlantic can't recall stopping for bunkers.
We were all well bronzied by the time we got to Rio - so much so that the port police thought my wife was a Brazilian and questioned whether she should be allowed on the ship. Old man was Donald Jack. Alan Fox(catering) and his wife Mary were also on the trip. Dave Edge. Posted on Forum June 8th 2012

You may remember I was Mate and if I my memory is correct,we loaded various grades of steel plate for Rio.
The actual trip took 34 days and before loading, Don Jack had impressed upon me that arrival draft in Rio must be no more that 30ft even keel.
After a few discussions with the Chief Engineer (who I think was Dave Inglis) over several beers and a lot of calculating on my part we set off from Osaka.
Thirty four days later we anchored at the entrance to the river Plate and a rope ladder was slung over the side. I clambered down, forward and aft and was met on the deck as I came back on board by Don Jack.
"Well", he said. "What have you got".
Rather proudly, I said "Thirty feet forward and thirty feet one aft, Captain"
"What a shame, laddie", said Don. "You just lost the biggest steak in Rio"!!!
Then he walked off with not another word. Don was a super guy - just a bit dour at times!!!
Never mind - we caught the plane home from Rio, didn't we. Al Nicholl. Posted on Forum June 12th 2012.

Good to hear from you after all these years. I trust you are well and I presume still living in sunny Devon!
I remember the trip well. You may recall my wife Sandra was with me and it was her Honeymoon Cruise as we had just married 10 days before we joined in Antwerp. Smiths sent us on a world tour. Antwerp, Lisbon, Tampa, Durban, Visak, Singapore (bunkers), Japan (Wakayama, Fukuyama, Osaka) and then Rio.
I often remind her (yes we are still together) that she was very fortunate in marrying someone with their own cruise line!! She also vowed never to go on a cruise again. Dave Edge. Posted on Forum June 12th 2012.
