Very pleased to have found this site. I was the Radio Officer in Tacoma City, Atlantic City and Maria Elisa. Joined Maria Elisa, one of the best ships I was ever in, at Manzanillo in January 1974. The fire erupted in Nagoya I think , but the opinion was that it had been smouldering for quite some time undetected. I left her in Kobe around about July. I met my wife to be shortly after so I started doing shorter trips in the North Sea oil business. Easier for courting but I did miss foreign going.
I later spent some years at Portishead Radio, ran my own business for a while and ended up in HM Coastguard until I retired. Very happy memories of Reardon Smirh.
