Willie Davies

I guess I joined RSL about the same time as yourself (Robin Carter). I recall Stuart Miller telling me he had sailed with youand I think it was on the Atlantic City with Captain Cann.
I did 7 trips with RSL and left them when I got my 2nds ticket, I joined Bank line and did 3 trips to some of the most amazing places in the South Pacific. While doing part A for my chiefs ticket I got talked into going as chief engineer on a small ship for a Cardiff company called Charles m willie's they only had one ship at that time, they got about twelve now all about 3000 tonne.
We used to run between Watchet near Minehead and Lisbon, I did a few trips most of which was spent being seasick.
After that I went back deep sea with CP ships, I sailed with them for about 6 years as 2/E and while with them I got my chief's ticket.
In about 1984 they requested 51 engineers to become redundant and offered a deal I could not refuse,so that was my time at sea.
I got a job ashore running the South Wales electricity boards HQ in St Mellons Cardiff which I did for a few years until a job came up as site engineer at Cwmbran shopping centre, it had a huge district heating plant with 5 massive boilers, you will be interested to know I took on as the site electrician an old mate of yours Wayne Purchase who I had a cup of coffee with this morning. I finished at the centre last year but Wayne still battles away there with about 6 staff working for him.
